The BuildersCalcs editorial team
Pages on BuildersCalcs are published under the name of the BuildersCalcs editorial team, not under individual bylines. The team maintains the fact base that every number comes from, writes the calculators and their check cases, sets the checks every page must pass before it goes live, and handles corrections. It does not test products or give engineering advice. This page sets out what the team is responsible for, so you can judge what a page on this site can and cannot tell you.
Why is the author an organisation and not a named person?
Because the work behind a page is shared, and we would rather credit it honestly than attach a name and a list of credentials to it. A calculator result depends on the fact file, the formula, the code that runs it and the check cases that test it, and those are maintained as one body of work. The byline on every page, and the author in its structured data, is therefore the BuildersCalcs editorial team as an organisation.
We do not publish invented personas, stock photos or job titles. If named contributors are added later, each will be listed here with what they actually do, and only credentials that can be checked will be stated.
What does the team do?
- Maintains the fact base. Every bag yield, coverage rate, sheet size, density and code value used on the site is entered once, with its publisher, document, page or table, and the date it was checked. Code and safety values need two independent sources before they are stated as fact. Values found in only one source are labelled with that source's name. Unit conversions use the NIST definitions listed in the US and metric conversion reference.
- Writes the calculators. Each calculator definition names its formula, points every constant at a fact, and carries at least five worked check cases that must pass before the page is published.
- Drafts and checks pages. Drafts are written with AI assistance, working from the fact base, and no figure is typed in by hand. Automated checks catch missing facts, banned phrases, testing claims, ratings, prices and broken links.
- Handles corrections. Reports are checked against the primary source, and a confirmed fix is made in the fact file so it reaches every page that uses that figure.
The full method is on our calculation methodology page.
What does the team not do?
- It does not test products. Nothing on the site has been bought, laid, spread or cut to produce a figure. Coverage and yield come from the maker or standards body, and the page names which. Waste defaults are likewise someone else's published figure; the waste allowance by material guide names each one.
- It does not act as your engineer or inspector. The team does not present itself as licensed engineers, architects or building inspectors, and no page is a design for your site. Structural spans, footings, retaining walls above the engineer threshold and anything that needs a permit belong with a qualified professional and your local building department or building control body.
- It does not rank or price products. There are no scores or top picks, and no stored prices.
- It does not take payment to include a product or source. Commission from Amazon links has no part in which figures are used or which products are listed.
How can you check the team's work?
Every page gives you what you need to check it without trusting us. Each calculator shows its formula and the working for your inputs, and publishes its constants as a data file with the fact and source behind each one. The sources list at the foot of each page names the publishers of every figure it uses.
If you find a figure that does not match its source, please send a correction. Start from every material calculator to see the tools themselves, or from the measuring guides and references to see how the methods are explained. The site's background and funding are on about the project.
